Chapter 1 Number System

Chapter 3 Coordinate Geometry

This chapter introduces students to the meaning of Coordinate geometry and its systems which includes, Number Line, Cartesian Coordinate System, Plane and Three-Dimensional. It mainly focuses on the topic Coordinate Geometry in a Plane where students learn to plot a point in the plane if its coordinates are given.

Chapter 4 The Linear Equations in Two Variables

This chapter explains the meaning of Linear Equations. It deals with the various methods of solving Linear Equations like Graphical Method where students learn to solve linear equations in two variables by plotting a graph and Substitution Method and Equations of lines parallel to the x-axis and y-axis. This chapter also teaches students the difference between Linear and Non-Linear Equations.

Chapter 5 Introduction to Euclid’s Theory

This is a narrow chapter that mainly focuses on and introduces students to various definitions given by Euclid for plane geometry also known as Euclid Geometry, Euclidean Geometry Axioms, and Euclid’s Five Postulates and Equivalent Versions of Euclid’s Fifth Postulate.

Chapter 6 Lines and Angles

This chapter deals with basic applications of angles and their relationship with lines. Students learn how angles are formed and their properties a) when two lines intersect each other and b) when a line intersects two or more parallel lines at distinct points.

Chapter 7 Triangles

This chapter recalls the properties and Congruence of Triangles. It further states the Criteria for congruence of triangles (also called as rules of congruency) such as SSS (Side-Side-Side) Criterion, SAS (Side-Angle-Side) Criterion, ASA (Angle-side-Angle) Criterion and RHS (Right Angle-Hypotenuse-Side) Criterion and ASA (Angle-Side-Angle) Criterion with some axioms and theorems. It explains about Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles (CPCT).

Chapter 8 Quadrilaterals

This chapter deals with the Angle Sum Property of a Quadrilateral, Types of Quadrilaterals such as Trapezium, Parallelograms, Rectangle, Rhombus, Square, and Kite. It further elucidates the Properties of a Parallelogram and Conditions for a Quadrilateral to be a Parallelogram. This chapter also introduces students to the Mid-Point Theorem.

Chapter 9 The Areas of Parallelograms and Triangles

This chapter recalls the meaning of the area and explains the methods of calculating Areas of Parallelograms and Triangles. It deals with basic concepts of Areas of Parallelograms and Triangles, Figures on the Same Base and Between the Same Parallels, Triangle on the Same Base and Between the Same Parallels and Parallelograms on the Same Base and Between the Same Parallels.

Chapter 10 Circles

This chapter lists out the Properties of Circle and terms relating to circles such as Diameter, Radius, Arc, Chord, Sector, Secant, Tangent, and Circumference of a Circle. It also elucidates the 5 important theorems of Circle. It deals with other related topics and such as Angle Subtended by a Chord at a Point, Angle Subtended by an Arc of a Circle, Perpendicular from the Centre to a Chord, Circle through Three Points, Equal Chords and Their Distances from the Centre, and Cyclic Quadrilaterals.

Chapter 11 Constructions

This chapter has the target to provide a basic understanding of how shapes are formed and elucidates the steps to constructing a bisector, a perpendicular bisector and triangles. Students learn to bisect a given angle, construct a triangle given its perimeter and two base angles, construct a triangle given its base, the sum of the other two sides, and a base angle, construct an angle of 60 degrees, and to draw perpendicular bisector of a given line segment.

Chapter 12 Heron’s Formula

In this chapter, students are recalled the concepts learned in their previous classes in the introduction. It further depicts the properties of different shapes and figures and the application of Heron’s formula to find out the Area of Triangle and Areas of Quadrilaterals, and the derivations of the formula.

Chapter 13 Surface Areas and Volumes

This chapter deals with calculating the Surface Area of various objects with different shapes like a cube and cuboid, Right Circular Cylinder, Right Circular Cone and a Sphere. It further teaches students how to calculate the volumes of various objects with different shapes such as Cuboid, Cylinder, Right Circular Cone, and a Sphere.

Chapter 14 Statistics

This chapter gives the meaning of statistics and the implementation of statistics in our day-to-day lives. It deals with topics such as Collection of Data, i.e., gathering data by performing an activity, Presentation of Data, i.e., find out the ways to present the collected data, and Graphical Representation of Data, i.e., graphs where each item of the data is comparable. This chapter introduces the topic, Measures of Central Tendency.

Chapter 15 Probability

In this narrow chapter, students are introduced to the basic concept and meaning of probability. It also depicts the rules and methods to find out the probability of a particular event and the outcome of events.

Chapter 1 The French Revolution

France did not become a democracy in one day, nor did it happen in a few odd years. The decade long struggle for independence from the monarchy paved the way to a system of governance that had not been heard of before. From declaring ‘Rights of Man’ to providing liberty nationwide, The French Revolution is an important event to understand the erosion of feudalism from France and the spread of French culture.

Chapter 2 Socialism in Europe and the Russian Revolution

In continuation of Europe’s history, this chapter discusses the birth and spread of Socialism across Europe and the history of one of the strictest regimes and how its public reversed that order for a completely new one: The Russian Revolution which raised the question of economic equality and the well-being of workers and peasants in Russia and brought forward changes by the newly established Soviet government such as industrialization and mechanization, agricultural rights and others.

Chapter 3 Nazism and the Rise of Hitler

This chapter talks about the rise of Hitler and the politics of the strict ideology of Nazism, the children and women in Nazi Germany, their discrimination, and concentration camps. The chapter further highlights Nazism and how it discriminated against minorities by creating a rift between them and the public by interfering in the various minorities' right to live, anti-Jewish sentiments and battle against democracy and socialism to keep the authoritarian regime alive and working.

Chapter 4 Forest Society and Colonialism

The chapter gives an idea of the history of developments in India and Indonesia regarding the growth of industries, ships, and railways, new demand on the forests for timber and other forest products by including topics such as the new rules of forest use, new ways of organizing the forest, colonial control, mapping of forest areas and its classification and plantation development during the colonial period and how different groups were affected by such changes in forestry.

Chapter 5 Pastoralists in the Modern World

The final chapter of the history section talks about nomadic pastoralists- a form of pastoralism where livestock is herded to find fresh pastures by nomads who did not live in one place but moved from one area to another to earn their living. This chapter discusses the influence of pastoralism in societies of India and Africa, the impact of colonialism on their lives and how they coped with the advent of modern society.


Chapter 1 India Size and Location

The first chapter of the geography section gives an insightful journey of India’s enormous size and geographical location while talking about its features that are guided by the same two factors. The chapter also contains questions related to the contents of the chapter that include both theory and map skills and apart from those questions, 2 questions are also provided under the project and activity section for students to explore more about India’s size and location.

Chapter 2 Physical Features of India

This chapter will also discuss the effects of having such a climate and what it means for the people living and the end of the chapter contains 8 questions. Out of which, one is MCQ and some short answer questions to test the student’s knowledge on the topics studied.

Chapter 5 Natural Vegetation and Wildlife

India is robust with its unique flora, fauna, forests and wildlife and this chapter explores them in-depth using 2 maps, one explaining India’s Natural Vegetation and the other explaining its Wildlife Reserves to fully explain the types of vegetation and wildlife present in the country. The exercise also has 6 questions ranging from MCQ to establishing a distinction between different topics to enable the student to understand and provide distinctions between the topics studied.

Studying the population is an essential element of social sciences. It is the point of reference from which all the other elements are observed, and every feature present in the land is determined around it. The characteristics or qualities of the population considered provide background for understanding and appreciating all aspects of the environment and therefore in this chapter, the students will get to know how population plays a crucial role in the development of the country.


Chapter 1 What is Democracy? Why is Democracy?

This chapter creates a distinction between democratic and non-democratic forms of government. It will introduce students to a broader idea of democracy and what are the implications and advantages of having such a form of governance for both the government itself and the citizens. The exercise has 10 questions; short answers based making it easy for students to remember them. In exams, questions from this chapter can be asked for 1 or 2 marks.

Chapter 2 Constitutional Design
